Short Description:
Despite considerable development of research on ecosystem services (ES), their application to environmental management is still inadequate. The challenge is to transpose the current scientific knowledge about ES into operational one. It needs to come around interest of decision makers on including the ES approach into legal system as well as to increase skills of experts contributing to environmental management. There is a need to develop operational knowledge on ES in various fields, including a selection of robust indicators based on the available data for different ecosystems, the consideration of ecological, social and economic values when assessing benefits from ecosystems, as well as taking into account different spatial scales. Also identification of significant synergies and trade-offs between individual services is of great practical importance. In general, the proposed session is to be a forum for presenting case studies showing approaches to the application of the ES at various spatial scales, taking into account local, regional and national dimension.
