Brazil is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, although urban ecology is still on an initial phase of development. Urban ecosystems and nature-based solutions are starting to gain a momentum because of the impacts of the changing climate that have hit cities in a more severe way every year, causing economic and social losses. In an attempt to solve local challenges, interdisciplinary agendas are needed by incorporating concepts from urban ecology and landscape architecture into studies and decision making.  In this session researchers and practitioners will present their work that cover a wide range of fields that are complimentary to better understand the connections between science and practice. We will discuss deficiencies, potentialities and propose alternatives to enhance the knowledge about Brazilian urban ecosystems and to transform the scientific knowledge into nature-based solutions in different levels: country, state, municipality and local.  During this session, we aim at discussing different topics, such as planning ecologically functioning urban forests, integrating other nature-based solutions into urban green and blue infrastructure, regenerative projects of NBS in megacities at local scale, and alternatives to reduce conflicts between humans and urban biodiversity. As a megadiverse developing country, Brazil can be considered an interesting laboratory for understanding the challenges and propose solutions for a more ecological and sustainable development of urban landscapes.
